Empirical Work on Auctions of Multiple Objects

چکیده
Abundant data has led to new opportunities for empirical auctions research in recent years, with much of the newest work on auctions of multiple objects, including: (i) auctions of ranked objects (such as sponsored-search ads), (ii) auctions of identical objects (such as Treasury bonds), and (iii) auctions of dissimilar objects (such as FCC spectrum licenses). This paper surveys recent developments in the empirical analysis of such auctions. ∗Hortaçsu is at the Department of Economics, University of Chicago, 1126 E. 59th Street, Chicago, IL 60613. A Comparative Study of Multi-Attribute Continuous Double Auction Mechanisms
Auctions have been as a competitive method of buying and selling valuable or rare items for a long time. Single-sided auctions in which participants negotiate on a single attribute (e.g. price) are very popular. Double auctions and negotiation on multiple attributes create more advantages compared to single-sided and single-attribute auctions. Nonetheless, this adds the complexity of the auctio...

* University of Belgrade, Faculty of Economics, [email protected] JEL CLASSIFICATION: D44 ABSTRACT: In sequential auctions objects are sold one by one in separate auctions. These sequential auctions might be organised as sequential first-price, second-price, or English auctions. We will derive equilibrium bidding strategies for these auctions. Theoretical models suggest that prices in sequent...
متن کاملOn Some Collusive and Signaling Equilibria in Ascending Auctions for Multiple Objects
We consider two ascending auctions for multiple objects: the SEAMO (simultaneous English auction for multiple objects) and the the JAMO (Japanese auction for multiple objects). We first derive a (competitive) Perfect Bayesian Equilibrium of the JAMO by exploiting the strategic equivalence between the JAMO and the Survival Auction which consists of a finite sequence of sealed-bid auctions. Then,...
متن کاملSimultaneous First-Price Auctions with Preferences over Combinations
Motivated by the empirical prevalence of simultaneous bidding across a wide range of auction markets, we develop and estimate a structural model of strategic interaction in simultaneous first-price auctions when objects are heterogeneous and bidders have preferences over combinations. We begin by proposing a general theoretical model of bidding in simultaneous first price auctions, exploring pr...
متن کاملFormation of Willingness to pay by Repeat Bidders in Sequential Online Auctions
In this study, we investigate the formation of bidder’s willingness to pay (WTP) in sequential online auctions. Our findings contribute to the literature of online auctions in the following ways. First, we detect and empirically measure in a real world scenario the WTP updating phenomenon mentioned by Engelbrecht-Wiggans (2000). By considering the environment of multiple sequential auctions of ...
